About Truckload of Respect & Wreaths Across America

What is the difference between Wreaths Across America and Truckload of Respect?

Wreaths Across America is a national non-profit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery, begun by the Worcester family of Harrington, Maine, in 1992. Since the non-profit's founding in 2007, the organizationís mission to Remember, Honor, Teach is carried out, in part, each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies each December at Arlington and more than 1,000 locations nationwide.

Truckload of Respect is an outreach project conducted and managed by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) to ensure that every remembrance wreath donated for placement on a veteran's grave as part of the Wreaths Across America project is delivered to its destination without cost to the charity or the cemetery. TCA works through its member companies and the trucking industry to secure volunteer commitments to haul every load of wreaths, and also coordinates the dispatch/delivery logistics for Wreaths Across America.

Working together in 2014, Wreaths Across America and Truckload of Respect met the challenge of placing wreaths on every grave in Arlington National Cemetery - more than 230,000 wreaths. Beyond Arlington, Truckload of Respect delivered 490,000 wreaths to 1,034 cemetery locations across the country.

While they are separate and independent entities, Wreaths Across America and TCA's Truckload of Respect program work together toward the common goal of honoring our fallen military veterans during the holiday season.

I'm interested, who should I contact?

In addition to coordinating and arranging delivery of the wreaths, TCA's Truckload of Respect program serves as a clearinghouse to document and promote the entire trucking industry's support of Wreaths Across America. While there are numerous groups organizing and raising funds, the focus of the Wreaths Across America team is to carry out its mission of honoring veterans, so gathering industry-specific statistics and coordinating promotions are up to those providing support.

To ensure that we can accurately document the trucking industry's support of Wreaths Across America, it's important to coordinate your participation through TCA. In addition to serving as your main point of contact, we can also provide you with resources to leverage your participation and help promote a positive image for the trucking industry.

Is every veteran's cemetery served by Wreaths Across America?

Sadly no, at least not yet, but new cemetery locations are added each year.

How can I get a cemetery location added to Wreaths Across America?

If you know of a cemetery location that isn't yet served, TCA can show you how to get the location added. Again, it's important to coordinate your participation through TCA, so that we can accurately document the entire trucking industry's contribution to Wreaths Across America.

Do I need to be a TCA member to participate in the Truckload of Respect program?

Absolutely not. While we encourage all truckload carriers and trucking industry suppliers to enjoy the benefits of TCA membership, the Truckload of Respect program is open to both TCA members and non-members alike. Our main goal is to honor as many veterans as possible each year, with a secondary goal of promoting a positive image for the entire trucking industry.

How can I participate in the Truckload of Respect program?

There are numerous participation and support options available to fit the capabilities of companies large and small, as well as individual owner operators and even drivers. Participation can be as simple as making a small financial contribution, purchasing one wreath for your own truck while sponsoring a second wreath for grave site placement, sponsoring the cost of one or more boxes of wreaths, volunteering to deliver one or more loads of wreaths, or organizing a large-scale fund raising effort.

I'm an owner operator wanting to volunteer my time and truck, can I get help with the cost of fuel?

Thanks to grants from Shell Rotella and other financial supporters, we can help owner operators with fuel cost reimbursement. Please contact TCA to learn more.

I want to help, how can I buy a wreath for my truck?

With the "Rolling Tribute" option, drivers can buy one wreath for their truck, while sponsoring a cost of a second wreath to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery. The package price of $40.00 includes shipping and handling.

Can I choose a delivery location near my base of operations?

Yes, . . . but load selection is first come, first serve, so please sign up and select your load(s) ASAP. In 2014, we had more than 1,000 delivery locations spread throughout the Continental US. Loads originate from Worcester Wreath in Harrington, Maine, or from cross-docking operations in the Central US.

I'd like to promote my participation in Wreaths Across America and Truckload of Respect, is that permitted?

Absolutely yes! Within reasonable limits, of course, promotion of your involvement is strongly encouraged. This builds awareness for Wreaths Across America, and also helps to promote a positive image for the trucking industry. TCA's participant resources include a PSA video commercial that can be used in your local broadcast market, and also provides ideas and tips for promoting your involvement.

Our local/regional trucking association would like to raise funds for Wreaths Across America, how do we get started?

TCA is already working with most of the state trucking associations on a coordinated, industry-wide fund-raising effort to support Wreaths Across America. Please contact your state association first, to see if you can participate in their program. If state-level participation isn't available to your group, please contact TCA to participate directly. Please remember, it's important that TCA is your first point of contact, so that we can properly coordinate your efforts and accurately document the entire trucking industry's contribution to Wreaths Across America.
